Of all the islands, Formentera has the fewest options in terms
of accommodation, but on the upside, it has the best in terms
of beaches and unspoiled terrain. Aside from a handful of blocky
resort-style hotels and the odd small hostel, there isn't a
great deal to choose from. There is, however, Las Banderas—an
eclectic collection of beach bungalows on the beautiful Platja
Mitjorn, which serve as three bedrooms for guests. It's pretty
basic, with bohemian, 1960s-style decor inspired by the owner's
own travels; think lots of Morroccan lanterns and wood panels
painted in violet, red, terra-cotta, blue, and orange, as well
as outsize wicker furniture. For seasoned travelers who don't
need all the frills, it has a lovely, unencumbered sense of
style, but if you're after plush bathrooms and designer furnishings,
it may seem a little rustic. A designer "beach hut"
in Bali it is not. At night Las Banderas has a magical vibe;
by day it's pure chilled-out chic. The clientele: style-savvy
and sun-kissed, with the odd celebrity looking to get away from
the paparazzi glare.Closed November to March.

.... The Moroccan-hippie chic Las Banderas, in Platja Mitjorn
is where the fashion set, escaping from Ibiza, gather. There
are only six rooms, most with breezy porches accessorized with
sofas and big comfy cushions, so book ahead in high season.
